Amir Mir, the interim information minister for Punjab, has guaranteed that the provincial caretaker government won’t block the Aurat March and that all organisers’ concerns have been taken care of. The Deputy Commissioner had previously rejected the Aurat March organising committee’s request for a NOC from the district administration to conduct a march on March 8 due to security concerns and objections from the general public and religious organisations. Civil society, political parties, and rights organisations, notably the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, denounced the rejection.
The interim administration supports everyone’s right to freedom of expression, the minister has recently declared, and participants in the march will have full police protection. The Lahore High Court will hear a plea from the Aurat March organisers challenging the DC’s ruling on March 6. The HRCP has urged the interim administration to support the Aurat March’s right to peaceful assembly and give them complete protection.
